Smart Lockbox Key Storage for Realtors

Smart Lockbox Key Storage for Realtors

 March 1, 2017

If you’re still using combo lockboxes or requiring showing agents to come by your office to pick up keys, it’s time to bring your key storage game to the 21st century. There are better ways and better options to keep your seller’s keys protected and your listings accessible.

And if you’re usually the one trying to keep up with combo codes for multiple listings or driving around town to pick up keys for showings, it’s time to start talking to your fellow Realtors about using smartphone and Bluetooth technology instead.

Smarter Lockboxes for Listing Agents

Lockboxes are out there that don’t need a combination and use today’s technology through your phone. They exist, and they’re something you need to consider for your office. Why?

  • They can be unlocked via smartphone, usually through an app.
  • You can give one-day-only codes to buyers agents, keeping your seller’s property even more secure.
  • You’ll receive notifications when the lockbox is accessed.
  • You can view logs of who is opening your lockboxes and when they’re being accessed.

You’ve now got more control over who’s going into your listings, and you’ve got the data to know who, when, and how many times you listing is being accessed. At the same time, you don’t have to babysit keys, take multiple calls or receive texts when showing agents lose or can’t remember the combination to the lockbox.

Where Do You Get Smart Lockboxes?

Multiple companies now offer smart lockboxes. If your local association sells or leases lockboxes, check with them to see if better, smarter lockboxes are available. But if you prefer to buy them yourself, you’ve got options.

RockLock: When someone needs to access your listing, you can send the agent an invitation through the RockLock app. They open the lockbox with their app, and you receive notification that the key has been taken. You can even add a tag to the key so you know when it’s been returned to the lockbox for extra peace of mind.

SentriLock: SentriLock uses BlueTooth technology and a smartphone app to help agents access your lockboxes. You’ll be able to manage your lockboxes through the dashboard – shackling them and unshackling them to individual listings. Plus you’ll receive notifications when your lockboxes are accessed.

Supra: Supra has been on the cutting edge of smarter lockboxes and key systems for years. Their boxes have been able to be opened for a long time using a key/code system. Now you can download an app to open them with Bluetooth technology and have access to all the notifications and control over your lockboxes that you need to keep your listings and your boxes secure.

If you’re still using old combo lockboxes, it’s time for a change. You’ll have more information about who’s getting into your listings, more control about who can get in, and more time when agents don’t have to call for codes or come by to pick up keys. The rest of your business has gone digital and can be done from a mobile device. Shouldn’t your lockboxes get the same upgrade?
