What a Real Estate Agent can Learn from a Landscaper about Finding Clients.

 October 17, 2014

Let me ask you a question.

Since the day that the piece of property was parceled by the county until now what professional service do you think earned the most amount of money in fees?

Is it the:

  • Contractor/handyman who built/maintain the house?
  • Agent who sold it over and over again?
  • The inspector/appraiser?

no, no, no.

I would submit to you that the individual who earned the most in gross sales from the average middle class piece of property is in fact the landscaper.

Think about it.

What a real estate agent earns in a commission check the landscaper will gross every several months and it’s recurring as long as grass grows.

That’s why agents can learn from how the most effective landscapers run their businesses here’s some tips:

#1 – Canvass The Neighborhood.

I noticed landscapers when they would service one property in the area they would also canvas the neighborhood handing out flyers, offering their service to neighbors.

Obviously, this results in landing more clients.

Agents can do the exact same thing.

As soon as you get a listing why not distribute flyers to homeowners in the area announcing yourself and your service?

#2 – Offer Free Services

Landscapers get em’ every time with this one, they’ll offer the next door neighbor, “hey, I’ll give your front yard a free cut as a test trial.”  The next thing you know another client.

An easy ice breaker when you meet new prospects is to make them an offer regarding your services that they can’t refuse.

Offer a market analysis or a free evaluation of their home in this market.

This will give your potential clients a reason to hire you as they will focus on what they will get out of the deal and you will end up with another listing.

#3 – Document Your Work

Smart landscapers are constantly showing off what they can do by sharing before and after pictures of their work.

As a real estate agent you can do the same and take it to the next level with a full featured website that can attract leads and make it easy to interact with your prospects on social media.

This will help you stand out above your competition and get attention for the right reasons.
